Who's Who
Paul Hastings Mr. Hastings brings more than 20 years of experience as a biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry executive. He has served as President and CEO of OncoMed Pharmaceuticals since January, 2006. Prior to OncoMed, Mr. Hastings was - President and Chief Executive Officer of QLT, Inc. Prior to that, Mr. Hastings served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Axys Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by Celera Corporation in 2001. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Hastings served as the President of Chiron BioPharmaceuticals, a division of Chiron Corporation. Prior he was President and Chief Executive Officer of LXR Biotechnology. Mr. Hastings also held a series of management mpositions of increasing responsibility at Genzyme Corporation including serving as President of Genzyme Therapeutics, Europe as well as President fo Worldwide Therapeutics. Mr. Hastings also served as Vice President Marketing and Sales, and General Manager, Europe, for Synergen Inc., and previously held a series of marketing and sales management positions with Hoffman-La Roche. Mr. Hastings serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Proteolix, and serves on the board of directors of Cerimon Pharmaceuticals. He recieved a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island.
Denise Pollard-Knight, PhD Dr. Pollard-Knight has served since April 2004 as managing director of Nomura Phase4 Ventures, an affiliate of Nomura International plc, a leading Japanese financial institution. From January 1999 to March 2004, Dr. Pollard-Knight served as head of Healthcare Private Equity at Nomura International plc. From January 1997 to January 1999, Dr. Pollard-Knight was a member of Rothschild Asset Management Ltd., an investment management firm. Dr. Pollard-Knight holds a Ph.D. and BSc (Hons) from the University of Birmingham in England. Dr. Pollard-Knight completed postdoctorate work as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.
Hugh Martin Mr. Martin joined Pacific Biosciences in 2004 as a seasoned executive with a 25-year track record managing leading edge technologies, new ventures, and high growth businesses. Previously, Mr. Martin was Chairman, President and CEO of ONI Systems - a high-speed optical telecommunications company he founded in 1998 and took public in 2000. Named the Fastest Growing Company in the Silicon Valley in 2001, ONI was sold to Ciena in 2002. After its sale, Mr. Martin served as a consultant to Ciena, a CEO in residence at the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, and was a Director at Cloudshield Technologies. Prior to ONI, Mr. Martin was President and Director of 3DO-an interactive gaming company. His earlier experience includes running desktop engineering for Apple Computer and founding Ridge Computers-designer of the world's firs commercial reduced instruction set computing (RISC) minicomputer. Mr. Marting recieved a BS in Electrical Engineering at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Mr. Martin currently serves on the Board of Directors of Pacific Biosciences and Infinera.
Susan M. Molineaux, PhD Dr. Molineaux has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Proteolix since January, 2006. From the company’s founding in December, 2003 through December, 2005, she served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Proteolix. Prior to joining Proteolix, Dr. Molineaux was at Rigel Pharmaceuticals in South San Francisco, CA from 2000 to 2003, where she was Vice President, Biology. Before that, she was Vice President, Biology at Praelux in Lawrenceville, NJ. From 1994 through 1999, Dr. Molineaux served as Vice President of Drug Development at Praecis Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, MA and from 1989 until 1994 she was a scientist in the Immunology group at Merck, in Rahway, NJ. Dr. Molineaux received a B.S. in Biology from Smith College, a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University.
